Debbie Jeanne Burton Scholarship
This scholarship is open to students majoring or intended to be majors in special education.
Established in 2001 by The Emerald Center Foundation and funded through gifts by family and friends, in memory of Debbie Burton, daughter of J. Felton and Doris Burton. Debbie, a lifelong resident of Greenwood and a charter student of Emerald Center School for Disabilities and Special Needs, is honored and recognized for her many contributions to those with disabilities and special needs. Hundreds of mentally challenged children currently have opportunities never before available to them due to the life of Debbie Burton. The scholarship will be awarded annually from endowment income to students interested in helping those with disabilities. Preference will be given to students in the area of Special Education. Selection will be based on merit and need, and the scholarship is renewable provided recipient maintains an acceptable GPA.
