Malakia Logan Memorial Scholarship

The Malakia (Kia) Logan Memorial Scholarship was established in Kia’s memory through the combined efforts of Bernetta Baylor, Kia’s mother, and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department. Kia’s life ended tragically at age eight resulting in the establishment of a reward fund at the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department. Authorization was given from Sheriff Sam Riley, former Greenwood County Sheriff, and Kia’s mother for monies to be transferred from the reward fund to The Lander Foundation to establish the scholarship. Because of Kia’s love for school, her mother felt it appropriate to perpetuate her memory by providing needed financial assistance to Lander University students who aspire to be teachers and nurses. Annual award from fund income to full-time Lander incoming freshman with 2.5 or higher GPA who is a student with financial need.
