Martha Wharton Barnette Scholarship
The University’s most valuable and most competitive scholarships are awarded only in those years when candidates of exceptional achievement and high promise are recognized. Established in 1993 by P. Henderson Barnette and his family, the scholarships honor the memory of his wife, Martha Wharton Barnette, and her lifetime of exemplary service to Lander, her community, and her state. A 1947 Lander graduate, Mrs. Barnette served as President of the Lander Foundation and Secretary of the Lander Board of Trustees. Qualified applicants are expected to major in Music, the Mathematical or Natural Sciences, or Business and maintain a GPA of 3.3 throughout the full four-year period of the award.
