Bix Beiderbecke Scholarship

Bix Beiderbecke was one of the great jazz musicians of the 1920’s. Scholarship established by James and Sonja Crenshaw. Sonja has a Masters Degree in Horn Performance from the University of Northern Iowa. Ray learned much in his music classes as a student at Lander. He was a Visiting Lecturer of Horn at University of California at Davis. Ray and Sonja met as members of the Air Force Band at Travis Air Force Base in California. Ray has fond memories of Dr. Boyce M. Grier, and to this day appreciates the support of Dr. Grier and his attendance at many music performances at Lander. The Crenshaw’s love for music has inspired them to make a difference in the life of a Lander student. Scholarship to be given to a married, returning non-traditional music major in education with emphasis on trumpet and music education. Preference to be given to participants in the Faculty Brass Quintet.
