Mary Alice White Abell

Born in Augusta, GA, September 29, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Bruce and Mary Alice Marshall White. She was a graduate of Chester High School and was a 1960 graduate of Lander College where she was elected May Queen her senior year and also served as student body President. Mrs. Abell taught in the [ublic schools of Savanna, GA, and Richmond, VA. A member and former deacon of the First Presbyterian Church, she also served as a Sunday School teacher, as President of the Women of the Church, Interim Director of Christian Education, and was elected a life member of Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Laurel Garden Club and had formerly served on the Board of Directors of St. Nicholas Speech and Hearing School and the Greenwood YMCA.

She and her husband, Dr. Erwin Abell, were long-time supporters of Lander University, Lander Athletics, and the Jeff May Complex.
