Alice Scott Beaudrot

Alice Scott Beaudrot

Alice Scott Beaudrot’s grandmother and mother attended Lander College when it was in Williamston. When it relocated to Greenwood in 1904 and was renamed in honor of its founder, the Rev. Samuel Lander, the stage was set for what would become Alice’s lifelong love for Lander University.

The young Alice found much of her life revolved around activities at the college. She attended violin and piano recitals and, of course, May Day celebrations, that rite of spring that brought hundreds to campus for a program of dance and beautiful costumes. When it came time for Alice to go to college in the late 1930s, the only choice in her mind was Lander.

After graduating from Lander in 1941, Alice married Charlie Beaudrot. Together, she and Charlie operated Beaudrot’s Flowers Inc. for 30 years. During that time, they had a daughter, Ann Scott Snead, who also attended Lander, graduating in 1970.

Alice Scott Beaudrot remained loyal to her alma mater. She served on the Lander Alumni Association Board, including a term-and-a-half as president. She was presented with the Lander Distinguished Alumni Award in 1991 and the Lander Medallion of Honor in 1995.
